Definitely a movie for fans. The story feels a bit rushed but it does the job. I can see how someone that isn't a video game player wouldn't like this very much, but it appealed very well to me, with the soundtrack and the little references to the games.
Also, props to the animation studio, it's absolutely fantastic.
