Don't listen to to critics. This is a Mario movie made for fans young and old alike... While adding new backgrounds to characters, it daringly follows the source material everywhere else, moreso than any other fantasy game based movie ever.
It is exactly what it sets out to be, unashamedly nerdy family entertainment for gamers.
