I really wanted to love this, but it turned out to be only ok. My favorite aspects: when they actually featured beloved, familiar music from the Mario games (not often enough!), and seeing familiar characters from the Mario games.
My least favorite aspects of the movie are the unnecessary non-Mario music clips and hyper-aggro Princess Peach. This movie could have been improved immensely if the princess were imprisoned like she is in the games, and we got a story about the adventures of the two brothers Mario and Luigi going on an adventure to find her.
The fact they make Peach a one woman army breaks the logic of why she would team up with Mario and need the help of Donkey Kong's army. As it is, the movie plot is a mishmash of random stuff. Could have been much better.
Oh, well.
