Review of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) by Madremia — 05 Apr 2023

Went in with low expectations because there hasn't been a great Mario Bros. movie yet. Exceeded the expectations. Visually appealing. Lots of game references in the visuals and the soundtrack. It was less funny than I expected, but it had its moments and the story was entertaining enough.

Lots of fun little Easter eggs from past games. Hoping they create a new game with some elements/levels/storyline from this movie. I don't know what all the fuss about the accent was. All the voice actors did a good job, even Chris Pratt.

Glad they kept it as originally planned. Excessive catering to critics and fans can make things worse. (Star Wars prequels AND sequels *cough *cough). A fair nostalgic flick. Probably 4* in reality, but giving 4.

5 because there really isn't much to criticize. As others have mentioned, the plot was a little simplistic, but I think they did a great job with the time they had. Probably didn't want to spend 2+ hours watching a Mario Bros.

movie, so if you accept it for what it is, it is worth a watch if you are a Mario fan. Also, I never would have thought I would say this, because it's a cartoon, but I'm glad I saw it in the theater. The sound and visuals were well done and it made it far more enjoyable than if I had waited for a streaming or disc release.
