Review of The Sunset Limited (2011) by Jeremy B — 02 Jan 2019
Extremely weak ending. Ironically, it doesn't seem that a great amount of meaning can be easily extracted from the film's intentions. It was as if Black's script was simply written to easily "lose" and simply give up near the end.
However, with that being said, if one searches for it hard enough, one thing which the film did somewhat exemplify was how true it is that we do too often see "educated" individuals lacking common sense and deep wisdom and the "uneducated" actually leading the way in regards to wisdom while abstaining from a mindset of folly.
One more positive that can be taken from the movie, although not necessarily purposefully presented, is the the fact that it truly does all come down to individual free will and whether or not the individual will decide to have a positive or negative outlook.
The desired direction often results in the outcome. The Sunset Limited highlights that some people that really could "have it all" refuse to accept it while some that could actually have a reason to be pessimistic are determined to push through it until they arrive where they truly wish to be.
