Review of The Sunchaser (1996) by Jeffrey P — 02 Sep 2012
Feels like it may have been shelved for a while. L.A. doctor Michael Reynolds (Woody Harrelson) is taken hostage by terminally ill criminal Brandon Monroe (Jon Seda), so that Monroe can reach a spiritual healing ground.
Both Charles Leavitt's script and Cimino's visuals have false notes (Maurice Jarre's score is particularly ill-fitting), but the film does improve once the story leaves California and hits the wide open spaces.
Neither Harrelson nor Seda may have been ideal casting for their roles, but their relationship does bring emotion to the buddy-film template.
