Review of The Suicide Squad (2021) by Abowman — 06 Aug 2021
This was an extremely average movie. The best adjective that I could use to describe this movie is "spergy." The entire movie was filled with over the top jokes that almost always fell flat. Idris Elba and Margot Robbie really saved this movie from being a complete disaster.
John Cena is painful to watch, and the rest of the characters were OK. There were quite a few scenes where it seems they were told to just improve, and it never worked. There's also no build up or tension in these movies anymore, instead it seems James Gunn is intent on trying to jam in as much content as possible within the 2 hour time block.
On the plus side, there was some interesting visual scenes and artistic direction. Unfortunately it was often overshadowed by how intentionally over the top the entire movie was.
