Review of The Stray (2017) by Valerie C — 04 Oct 2017
Now I do have to say that it does have some cheesy family film shots and jokes, but when you know this going in you will enjoy the film even more. The story follows Mitch and his wife as they are trying to fulfill his dream of being a screen writer. They are living in LA and he is working tirelessly as a studio exec and not spending much time with his growing family. Everyone is feeling the stress of dad not being at home especially their son. Christian is a little bit of a loner kid, gets bullied and doesn't really have any friends. One day a dog finds him on the playground, he brings him home and the Davis family changes forever.
If you have a dog you probably realize that your life is different from the moment you get them. And most of the time we think we are rescuing and saving a dog by bringing them into our families, but at the end of the day they end up saving us. Adding some extra happiness into our lives and making us better people. I would equate the story of Pluto the dog and the Davis family to Marry Poppins. People think Mary Poppins comes into the family to help the children, but we all know she is there to help Mr. Banks. Pluto defiantly found this family to help Mitch.
If you love family films and you love movies with dogs than this movie is a no brainier for you. As parents we all struggle with finding time for our kids and job and sometimes we need a little push in the right direction from an unexpected source to show us what is important.
The Stray is a cute and relatable family film that will make you laugh and cry.
The Stay opens October 6th nation wide.
Rating: B.
