Review of The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) by Andrew K — 13 Jun 2018
SPOILERS AHEAD: Another horror film where the characters make ridiculously irrational decisions in order to serve the story: 1) Your kids are missing so you go out looking for them without your cell phone? 2) You have a gun trained on the person whom you know killed your mother, yet do nothing? 3) And note to Hollywood: please stop having characters freeze and look in shock when they are stabbed, while the stabber is looking right back at them.
In real life, you would either fight or run. Plain and simple. The location was original, and anyone who had a grandmother in the 80s will enjoy the mobile homes as character aesthetic. The slow-paced and non-sensical first half, gives way to a third act that is actually quite fun and enjoyable, mainly because it's a huge departure in tone from all that is before.
