Review of The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) by Blaze F — 27 Mar 2018
I wanted to love this movie so bad. The trailer was riveting, the actual movie was ENJOYABLE but was a little slow starting off, and a tad disappointing.
Let me start with saying I'm a hardcore fan of the original. For years I have anticipated the release of a sequel. That said, the main problem I had with the sequel was the writing. The first film was genius because the victims were SMART! They did everything that I would have done to stay alive, but FATE was just against them. That's what made the first film GENIUS! Now the sequel had cliche characters. I was like why did you not rip the draw out of the kitchen and swing it at the killer. The mom could've ripped the towel hanger out of the wall and used it to club the killer. Then the stupid kid wouldn't pull the trigger after his sister was stabbed by this maniac...Why didn't the sister yank the gun out of her brother's hand when she saw he was too much of a coward, to use it. Then the use of overlaying 80s soundtrack on suspense sequences became redundant. It only worked once, when the killer finished the dad. Nevertheless, there were some amazing visuals, and very exciting parts throughout. Unfortunately, the filmmakers probably rushed this and didn't think everything through. Did I enjoy this movie, YES! Was I reverted like the first one NO! Was I a little annoyed and bored throughout parts, YES. Will I buy it on DVD when it comes out, YES! Strangers: Prey at Night gets a B-,C plus.
