Review of The Strangers (2011) by George R — 18 Aug 2011
Before watching 'The Strangers' I didn't know what to expect of it, to be honest. It just looked the same as pretty much any slasher film. And it is. But that's not necessarily a bad thing...
A lot of films much like don't scare me whatsoever, like for example Scream (I think that doesn't scare me because it's so iconic..) or I Know What You Did Last Summer. But this film actually creeped me out and scared me...
It's incredibly jumpy so watch it with that in mind, things will pop out at you that you're not expecting. Or even worse, that you are expecting, but you do not know when it's going to happen so the tension builds.
I think the director did a really good job on making this movie suspenseful and the acting was decent, for the most part.
The characters were good, mainly. Be it the only characters that can actually develop are the 2 people living in the 'invaded' house. The lead female character is good and she genuinely seems terrified, while the man living with her's pretty much just a douche.
The only real problem with the film is that there isn't really any motive as to why these people are trying to (or actually) entering this couples house so the plot seems thin towards the end but if you want to watch a jumpy, suspenseful slasher film, this is the film for you.
Overall I'd rate this film 8 out of 10 (80%).
