Review of The Strangers (2011) by Tom R — 09 Oct 2011
The Strangers is a movie that takes a while to get started. When it finally gets going (which I think is twenty or thirty minutes into the film), it's not that good. There is one spectacular shot where the masked man walks behind Liv Tyler (that was very effective and ominous; so good that they used it for the film's poster), it went through cliche after cliche until it is not even frightening anymore.
It follows the horror movie formula to a T and tries nothing new. I can't say I outright hate this movie, but I there's very little to like about it and the fact that it's mostly boring doesn't help.
The Strangers is just Vacancy (a REALLY bad movie) with better acting, direction, and jumpier parts.
