The Strangers did scare me A LOT. Director Bryan Bertino's cinematography is excellent (the shot on the poster of one of the Strangers standing behind Liv Tyler is GENIUS) and the intruders themselves are terrifying.
Unfortunately, the movie just gets uglier and uglier and uglier. I don't want to give away spoilers, but this isn't an enjoyable movie about the couple fighting back against the Strangers. We just watch them suffer, and pretty soon it just makes for a really depressing experience. The ending, in particular, is appalling for no reason at all. It turns into torture porn and it's ugly as ever. I'm so mad I was disappointed with this movie. It could have been so much better.
