Review of The Strangers (2008) by Todd S — 08 Mar 2011
The Strangers is only 75 minutes long, but it didn't need to be much longer. The story is nothing that hasn't been done countless times before, so it's up to the technique of the director, and he doesn't fail. I was surprised at how effective and well-done it was (for a slasher, it was actually scary). The first half is fantastic, subtle, engaging, and creepy...the second half kind of runs out of steam. But the rest brilliantly builds the suspense with excellent sound, visuals, and well-placed scares. Definitely worth watching if you're in the mood for an intense home invasion thriller.
Oh, and to the people saying this is a ripoff of "Them", you're right, but that movie sucked big time.
7.5/10.
