Review of The Strangers (2008) by Emmanuel T — 18 Jul 2012
The Strangers is about a young couple who stays overnight at an isolated vacation home. But here's the thing, there's this family of killers who, well want to terrorize them. The movie starts off with an awkward deep voice narration, saying that what you are about to see is inspired by true events.
And then it says that according to the F.B.I. there is an estimated amount of 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year. But not only does it stop there, it keeps going."On the night of February 11, 2005, Kristen McKay and James Hoyt left a friend's wedding reception and returned to the Hoyt family's summer home.
The brutal events that took place there are still not entirely known." These are the last words you will hear before the movie begins. It was very unnecessary to add this narration. Why? Because it attempts to scare its audiences throughout the film, judging by that narration alone.
Instead it should be smart, and scare its audiences with the film itself, rather than just bringing out a worrying narration. Anyways, there are actually a few frightful moments in the film. But despite these few frightful moments, this film is no different from other slasher horror flicks.
Except there isn't too much blood and gore, as in most slasher horror films these days. Once viewers begin watching this film, they will find themselves tired due to its slow pace. And then once "the strangers" enter the young couple's home viewers will have a feeling of suspense.
But this goes on and on, with nonstop terror until the very disappointing ending. After watching nothing but masked serial killers, attempting to kill a young couple, boredom will prevail its audiences once again.
So, here's a common question when watching this film: Why are these serial killers after this innocent young couple? Well towards the ending one of the female murderers tell them why! "Because you were home.
" She says, underneath her mask. If you like this short of thing, then know that you'll only receive a small amount of murder, blood, and gore. It does nothing but attempt to worry its audience about the "sick" people living in this world, which is simple to do.
