Review of The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (2014) by Wendy K — 26 Sep 2013
What the fuck was going on in this movie, I don't even know, and considering I absolutely detest horror movies because they are manipulative and horrible, I can't believe I forced myself to sit through this entire movie. When I first left the theatre, good God, I was ready to pop in a melatonin pill, sleep and pretend I didn't just freaked out by some seriously stylish editing skills. There is an extremely vague plot, but it doesn't even matter because the soundtrack and some of the warped disturbing editing/graphic sequences will make your skin crawl. And after you finish watching it, you don't really know what you just watched because as mentioned, there isn't much of a plot. There are a lot of flashbacks and repeated scenes too. The entire movie is just a bag full of cats. Actually, I don't even know why it has a writing credit because there are few actually effective lines, but more shots of moving shadows, close-ups and a badass symphony of violins and nails-on-chalkboard and what have you. Overall, it's entertaining. Would I recommend? No. Would I ever rewatch? Good God, no.
P.S. There is a strong misogynistic tone to this movie. Ugh.
