Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Gabrielle J — 25 Nov 2007
A surprisingly sober film from David Lynch. It spills over with heart and humanity, and does so in a fresh honest way rather than with heavy narcissistic emotion. Straight, simple, real. Richard Farsworth does an admirable job as the lead.
There's something soulful in his presence, as an actor and perhaps also as a person - could one act "soulfully" without actual soulful depth? I doubt it. Was sad to hear he commited suicide a year after the film's release.
This was following being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
