Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Bryan T — 10 Jan 2008
Despite all its flaws, "The Straight Story" is quite possibly one of the loveliest character pieces ever constructed. It has a recklessness, as all Lynch films do, to go off on whatever tangent it feels necessary and its confidence is a constant reminder that we are in good hands.
Though some of the episodes straggle, we never doubt the turns that this picture takes. This is one of the most visually lush movies you'll see and Richard Farnsworth doesn't act here, he incarnates.
I'll go on record that this is one of the most beautiful performances of the cinema. One of Lynch's best films. Watch it and then watch it again!
