Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Morgan L — 22 Mar 2008
This movie proves that David Lynch is capable of telling a story without reverting to his cliched novelty art-house imagery and pretentious, weighted psychobabble. He achieved in this film what he achieved in Elephant Man; let his actors tell "the straight story" without all the nonsense.
Of course the hipsters who claim to understand the "depth" of Lynch's later crap like Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway will find fault with this simple, unassuming tale, but it's their loss; they should just go back to discussing the modern-day importance of Luis Bunel over their $6 Starbucks grande vanilla soy double half-caff bullshit lattes.
