Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Larry D — 22 Mar 2008
For me, The Straight Story is to David Lynch what Ed Wood is to Tim Burton. I'm not a big fan of either director, but each of them has produced one shining gem. The excruciatingly slow pace of this film makes Alvin's journey all the more real and satisfying.
And Lynch clearly knows that a simple, lingering close up of Richard Farnsworth's face is more interesting and compelling than most so-called "action" films.
