Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Foad H — 27 Apr 2008
"There is virtue in patience". This is a straight forward and surprisingly (!) interesting story. An unusual road movie about speed and the worth of slowness in a crazy world where no one has time and time has everyone.
The pace of the movie mirrors that of its protagonist's epic journey and the heartfelt and approporiately brief conversations are more effective after long shots of endless fields and skies. While the lead performances are very good, some of the support acting is weak.
Also, the movie takes a while to warm up and becomes interesting only after the journey starts proper.
