Gentle but unsentimental, The Straight Story is lovingly crafted and masterfully makes fascinating the simple tale of Alvin Straight. Lynch somehow makes the most mundane details gripping in this extraordinay account.
The late Richard Farnsworth is terrific in the twilight of his career, capably supported by Lynch regulars such as Everett McGill, and a heavyweight, gut-wrenchingly sympathetic Sissy Spacek.
