Review of The Straight Story (1999) by The Phantom C — 03 Jan 2014
This is one of those movies that if it wasn't a true story, one would never believe it. The Straight Story is very slow moving (which I love) as it allows for time to develop the characters and the circumstances.
It is a 600 mile Odyssey of an elderly man riding his John Deer lawn mower to reunite with his estranged brother. There is very little dialogue but what is said is very powerful. I felt that Richard Farnsworth's character Alvin represented a biblical prophet like Moses or even Jesus.
He helped so many on his journey when he had almost no material possessions. You are left feeling that you have been reminded of the most important part of life is humanity. If you have the patience, you will be rewarded with wisdom from a very unusual source.
