It's movie heresy to say it but this is my favourite Robin Hood film even over the Errol Flynn original. The main reason is the sense of character and fun throughout the whole film. Whereas the 1938 film had a tendency to be a bit stoic and forced the story and acting in this one really allow you to get a lot more involved in the emotion of it all.
It's also extremely interesting to watch as a huge fan of the animated version to see what they borrowed for it.
