Review of The Story of Adèle H. (1975) by Mitchell W — 16 Mar 2008
For my money, Truffaut's best film from the '70s. It starts out slow but quickly burns up with the titular character's misguided infatuation with an English lieutenant. Isabelle Adjani never had a better role than Adele Hugo - her desperation is heartbreaking at first, but eventually her love twists into psychotic devotion, and her breakdown is disturbing as it is sad.
