Review of The Story of Adèle H. (1975) by Zack B — 14 May 2013
The film is unsurprisingly well made, one of Truffaut's strongest works, and yet the films primary source of power comes from Isabelle Adjani's harrowing, and painfully honest performance. As an audience, we are initially enraptured by the fineness of her features, the narrowness of her face, the creaminess of her skin, the olive eyes and the fullness of her lips.
She is luminous and it is for this reason that we are disturbed and also moved to watch her descend into a hellish madness brought on by an obsessively unfaltering love.
