Review of The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009) by Doris R — 02 Aug 2009
A highly emotional movie based on a true story about a very brave aunt making sure that the baseless accusations and stoning of her beloved niece by a husband wanting to marry and bed a fourteen year old instead was made public - world-wide! What is amazing is that even after it became clear and so-called witnesses blackmailed during their hour of grief retracting their confirmation of groundless accusation that caused a woman to be half buried in mudd with all the men - including her two sons and father - throwing stones at her until she eventually died .
.. oh, and did I mention she was tied up as well? - happily joining in ... and then desperately trying to cover it all up from the outside world. What a cruel world we still live in during the 21st Century where men are so afraid of all that is female that they have to retort to measures such as these and get away with it - so glad this woman stood up for her principles, no matter how many men tried to intimidate and/or ridicule her along the way! Hats off to this very special lady in Iran as well as the exceptional cast and crew making this movie possible.
Don't mind sharing with you that I did shed a tear or two - but must also admit that there is hope, now that these stories start surfacing more and more and the world becoming aware of it. Once we know what is going on, we can fight and do something about it!
