Review of The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009) by Kristin F — 21 Mar 2010
(favorite line from the movie)"Women are always guilty and men are always innocent?" Gritty and traumatizing view of the evil that greed, power and religion can inflict upon the innocent. Soraya was an Iranian woman married to a brutish man who abused his wife during the period of strict religious & political control after the removal of the Shah.
She believes (like many women do) that being a good mother and faithful wife (in spite of her abuse) is the way to live according to her "religion". She never accepts or realizes that evil exists in all walks of life and being an "innocent" won't protect her.
She's wrongly accused of adultery with a neighbor and sentenced to death by stoning. Fully portrays the powerlessness of women in oppressive and patriarchal societies. View the movie...spread the word.
..throw away those religions that dominate and control women!
