Review of The Sting (1973) by Francis L — 28 Jan 2012
I remember seeing this in the theatre when it was first released. I enjoyed it back then, but really wasn't following the plot much. Upon later and more recent viewings, I can see the genius of the entire production.
From the great score by Marvin Hamlisch (sp?), to the excellent cast, to the great sets and costumes, this rates 5-star in my book. Normally I don't care for movies which have more than one 'twist' within the plot.
And, this one has several...however once you realize that much of life itself is one big scam, then this perfectly fits within the confines of believability. Recently, I've finally been able to appreciate Robert Shaw's acting more than I had at first (Redford and Newman already rating pretty high on my personal list).
Just a marvelous work of art...the art of grifting... ;).
