Review of The Sting (1973) by Horvath S — 05 Apr 2010
I must say I was greatly impressed by The Sting. Paul Newman and Robert Redford form great on-screen chemistry just like before in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, again under George Roy Hill's suitably stylish direction. Up to the smallest supporting roles the acting is great, especially from Robert Shaw who plays the "mark" the whole con gang is after.
The story is very interesting and keeps you guessing and on-edge most of the time, full of twists and surprising character developments. Add to that rich dialogue, good humor, brilliant cinematography and one of the most memorable music of all time (compiled arrangements of 1910s Ragtime scores) and you have a fascinating and entertaining movie! You rarely see that kind of perfection these days with a story like this one, it's really too bad, but The Sting should not be missed.
