Review of The Sting (1973) by Sabrina I — 30 Oct 2010
Paul Newman and Robert Redford team up again for "The Sting" after the success of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". And this is a darn entertaining film..that keeps you completely engaged.
It may feel a little long but you are never bored. The film starts off pretty simple but soon becomes pretty complex and intriguing. It features an excellent script, all the twists come at you by surprise and as the viewer, you fall for them just as the character's in the film.
One of the best aspects of this film is that each scene sets up for the next scene, such as if we see a certain character do something...it's what that character did that is going to affect what happens in the next scene.
Overall, one of the best films of the 70's...it's not as groundbreaking as better films from that era like Taxi Driver but has a simple purpose-to entertain. And in that department, it's quite a winner.
