Review of The Sting (1973) by Dan L — 13 Feb 2012
Saw this film again the other night and I have to say - it holds up well. Needless to say Paul Newman and Robert Redford were a great screen pair and while some lament the fact they only made two movies together, I am thankful their limited collaborations were great ones.
This is really Redord's film and it garnered him the only best actor Oscar nomination of his career to date. Newman and Robert Shaw are outstanding in supporting roles and the set designs and locations capture the Depression era 1930's perfectly.
There is very little action and no romance in this caper film, yet the dialog, along with the Scott Joplin inspired score, keep the story gliding along at such a swift pace the end result leaves you wanting more.
