Review of The Sting (1973) by Allan C — 25 Jul 2012
I loved this movie as a kid and it still holds up today as a great highly entertaining film. My favorite cranky film critic, John Simon, who typically hated most every American film, actually liked this one, but I remember his one criticism of the film was that the one waitress that Robert Redford chases after was far too ugly for Redford to have ever been interested in.
Simon was also the same critic who hated Barbara Streisand and once wrote that the reason she is so popular is that she is an ugly woman who on film gets away with acting like a pretty woman, and therefore becoming an inspiration to ugly women everywhere.
He wasn't the most P.C. critic, but he was always entertaining.
