Review of The Stepford Wives (2004) by Sowmya A — 17 Sep 2012
Nice concept but sloppy direction. It started off brilliantly but it took considerable time to get to the real stuff. The mystery was obvious when the woman goes berserk at super human speed and emits smoke off her ears.
But then it's a movie to watch while working. You can't expect any psychological challenge other than waiting patiently to reveal who is behind this all and why. Oz had a chance to make this a bit scary in between while masking the true nature of the wives to save the mystery for later revelation.
He had a perfect cast and a more than perfect set. In an attempt to make the movie comic it oscillated from repetitive nature of mystery/drama to irritating makeup, facial expressions and dress-up of the entire cast.
Somebody in the reviews mentioned 'Pine Cone' - Vibrator, that was funnier than the sloppy conversation in the movie but I liked the part when Nicole say, ''Is that why they are slow' when a man mentions his working with AOL'.
Seriously, when the woman started to workout in washing-machine fashion, that was the lamest thing one could have done and that wasn't funny that was a blasphemy to art of making other people laugh.
As for the climax, it was rather worth waiting for. The manipulator's explanation as to why she did it sounded a bit like 'Nurse Betty' movie concept, how after witnessing an unfair crime, there occurred a personality transformation.
This could have been a cult movie if some darkness was preserved in an otherwise lame blonde movie.
