Review of The Station Agent (2003) by Bernard A — 28 Nov 2008
Somehow, this odd little movie was the perfect Thanksgiving film, as it dealt with the human need to be understood and accepted and it celebrates the uniquely American phenomenon of divergent people becoming friendly and essential to each other.
Never mind the predictable pacing and short scenes that have become a hallmark of the independent film genre; the ensemble of Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Williams and Patricia Clarkson is movie heaven.
Dinklage makes me proud to be an actor with his breakthrough role; Cannavale is comic heaven; Williams is sublimely wonderful; and Patrica Clarkson, even though she garnered the Supporting Actress nomination for Pieces of April, should have been a double nominee with her beautiful work in this film.
She is on the same par with Meryl Streep, as far as I'm concerned. A total delight, even for the people watching who 'didn't get it'-they actually want to see it again, and that is the mark of a great film.
