Review of The Station Agent (2003) by Philip S — 27 Dec 2011
Another one of those "look at me! I'm an indie film! I don't have to be about anything! I just have to have moody quirky characters!" Well, that doesn't really cut it with me. It gets points for being a little different, but that only gets you so far.
Try having an ending maybe. Or just a plot in general. Or some motivation, even. It's never really clear why Olivia and Joe go out of their way to be so nice to Fin when he is such an ass. Their friendship seems to come out of the blue and despite Fin's completely douchey personality.
And then there's Michele Williams' character. WTF? Who knew dwarves were so irresistible? So, yes, you may like this film for the pacing or the quirkiness, but if you're expecting a story, forget it.
Catch it on a lazy Sunday.
