Review of The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) by Jy S — 03 Dec 2008
I just watched this for the third time in 30 years. The first time I was 12 and thought it was okay. The second time I was a single adult and thought it was painful. This time I watched it with my kids and found it to bad, but not as bad as I remembered. My five year old lost interest around the 45 minute mark, but my 8 year old seemed to enjoy it, so I guess I know what age group it is best suited for.
If you're a kid who's into Star Wars or the parent of one, give it a shot. If you're an adult who's into Star Wars, you should watch it just to understand the derisive references other Star Wars fans make. It's not good, by any stretch of the imagination (unless you're between 8 and 12), but moments like Princess Leia singing the Life Day song to the tune of the Star Wars theme or Chewie's dad getting aroused by what amounts to VR porn make it memorable! Also, it features Boba Fett's first appearance!
