Review of The Stalking Moon (1968) by Daniel K — 26 May 2010
3: Very solid western. I seen very few films this sparse on dialogue, nor many with such simple stories. I absolutely hated the boy's father and couldn't wait for Gregory Peck to kill him, as we of course knew he would in the end.
Few films are this black and white, where the murderer/antagonist is so evil and such a blank canvas and unknown quantity that it is impossible not to hate them. Marie Saint is adequate, but this is definitely not her greatest role, nor her greatest performance.
Peck gives a solid and authentic-seeming performance as well. The real strength of the film lies in the story, the pacing, editing, and locations though. This is the old west of legend. Everything fits.
