Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Kenneth L — 08 Aug 2012
Damn it, I had written a whole 4-paragraph review of this movie, accidentally clicked away from the page, and lost it all. Anyway, this is a pretty good movie with sharply defined and well-acted characters, particularly by Jeff Daniels and Jesse Eisenberg.
Though it's a good character study, I feel like we end up in basically the same place at the end of the movie we were in at the beginning. Also, the titular metaphor of the squid and the whale feels kind of contrived and undeveloped to me.
I would have said more if I hadn't accidentally lost it. Anyway, check it out if you like indie movies about family dysfunction.
