Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Drew P — 16 Jul 2013
This is one of the best movies ever made! I loved it!!! Growing up in the 80's I was immediately connected with the characters and the life and times they were living in. The music was wonderful and helped keep you in the moment.
I can't say anything bad about this movie. The story is compelling from the minute the movie starts and is interesting and keeps you involved in the characters lives throughout the entire 80-minutes.
Jeff Daniels, who plays the dad (Bernard) is wonderful as an egomaniac that could go down as one of the worst parents of the decade. Laura Linney is brilliant (as always) as the mom that is struggling with her own identity and trying to become the indpendent woman that she lost over the years.
Both boys (Jesse Eisenberg) and (Owen Klein) do an amazing job at showing their emotions through the film story, without showing them externally to their parents. I think this is a sleeper movie and everyone should have it on their 'Must See' list.
