Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Sujit O — 01 Jul 2014
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this movie was the 'Wes Anderson style'. The oddball characters and the developments in the story are very much alike a Wes Anderson movie but the cinematography and the set design vary very much from his methods.
Later while going through the credits I found out he was the producer which made perfect sense. His input is very clearly observable. Apart from that, the story takes a deep look into a family going through a divorce and how each member of the family is going through it.
The characters, especially the kids Frank and Walt Berkman go through huge transformations which has been carried out very beautifully and making it quite heartfelt too. The acting is great in a very Wes Anderson style of way!
