Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Jason — 08 Jan 2009
Can't say it was an especially fun journey but it was most definitely an uber-realistic insight into a family crisis where selfishness, biases, immaturity, and misconceptions abound (as well as pretty much everything else break-ups ensure).
The characters are extremely believable and unfortunately relatable. The movie makes you cringe to watch. I began to absolutely hate the father and son, even though you don't entirely blame anyone, it's just how they are; they don't even know it.
It was over before I knew it, and I didn't mind, although it was actually a very good movie.
