Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Gus A — 21 Dec 2009

I really appreciate movies like The Squid and the Whale when they manage to rarely surface out of Hollywood. Every member of the cast gives deft, seemingly realistic performances, especially Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney.

I honestly can't recommend this to everyone though, as the few people I already have didn't necessarily grasp what it's trying to say and depict while coldly dismissing it as just "uncomfortable".

I personally look at it as essential viewing for anyone looking for something different and brutally honest.
