Review of The Square (2008) by D H — 11 Aug 2010
Comparing this to the Coens is misleading, unless you are thinking of BLOOD SIMPLE or NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. There are maybe two really funny moments in THE SQUARE. The rest is a grim affair, with, at best, a whimsical appreciation for oddness, coincidence and the general unpredictability of reality that is so at odds with a more typical vision of tragedy as solemn and dignified.
