Review of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) by Kevin S — 01 Oct 2008
What a ridiculously entertaining bond movie. easily one of moore's best. and he's on very good form here. quipping and fighting with the best of them. from the iconic opening ski chase, with union jack parachute! hehe.
to quite simply one of the very best bond theme songs ever. indeed, nobody does it better! this is just rip roaring fun. the egypt section is gorgeous and exotic. the sets are some of the greatest ever! and the first built on the then new 007 stage at pinewood! stromberg's lair, the supertanker.
amazing work. oh and the submarine lotus!!!! how cool was that! easily one of the best bond cars ever! one of the truly great villains in jaws! the magnet payoff had me in stitches! I also loved the dynamic with the main bond girl, the insanely hot anya, and the whole idea of them teaming up to save the world! so much to enjoy.
yeah it's overblown. but there's nothing wrong with that. only the naff 70's disco porn music from time to time left a smudge on the movie for me. a bit of john barry would have made this 5 stars! good to see bond "keeping the british end up!".
