Review of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) by Matt J — 22 Oct 2008
The best Roger Moore era Bond film. Everything clicks in this one. Yes the script borrows from YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE in the device of stealing submarines.
But Roger Moore and Barbara Bach carry the film. For me, next to Tracy, Anya is Bond's greatest love. Next to FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE it is the Bond film that defines the Cold War era, and defines detente for me.
Plus Carly Simon's theme song composed by the great Marvin Hamlisch is THE best Bond theme song. I honestly think NOTHING will surpass it. (I love this film so much, I'll give the '70s Disco Bond music a pass!).
