Review of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) by Dan T — 06 Sep 2015
If this is the best of the Roger Moore Bond films as the RT critics consensus suggests then I worry over what I am in for in the future with these films. The story is nonsense of course but that doesn't bother me so much as the way that the villain has a perfect opportunity to kill Bond and instead lets him go to get rid of him later. Staple for Bond films I suppose but it annoys me all the same.
And the Bond girl, the Russian agent? She is supposed to be the "best" of the Soviet agents? No wonder the USSR collapsed. She might be the best looking of the series of girls though, I'll give her that. Though as the film gives a lager role to her than most and the fact that she isn't much use to Bond, makes that uselessness more apparent and her being there merely to sleep with Bond more front and center. Makes it hard to enjoy watching this without being embarrassed for both her and the movie as a whole.
