Review of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) by Eric H — 18 Feb 2014
This was one of those movies in which, going in, my expectations were rather low. But, upon leaving, I found that I was definitely wrong! This movie kept me laughing until the very end, coming up with clever and hilarious jokes that kept its connection with its popular TV show alive.
You can tell the writers weren't trying to stray away from the cartoon at all, but actually making an extremely well-done 90 minutes episode. There are laughs for everyone; the Patrick stupidity jokes for the kids and the David Hasselhoff appearance for the adults, and yes, it does appeal to that one third of the SpongeBob viewing population that's over the age of 21, but can be seen and enjoyed by anyone as young as six.
It ranks up there with "The Incredibles", and is funnier than "Shark Tale", and has more charm than "The Polar Express". It's a definite family must-see.
