Review of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015) by Ian G — 17 Jun 2015
The majority of my experience with the series as just been surfing through the channels and catching a glimpse of the show, and also having done one of the 4d attractions of it as well at the Circus Circus up in Las Vegas, so originally I wasn't sure what to expect from the proceedings at all.
The trailer seemed a little enticing since it incorporated lice action elements along with CGI iterations of the Spongebob's back catalogue of characters and some of the situations they were put in seemed genuinely to have poitential.
Alas those elements only made up approximately 20 minutes of the 1 hr and forty minute running time, the rest of which seemed to be part 1 and 2 of a longer story arc about the magic recipe for the Bob burgers or whatever they were called to be stolen by Banderas' pirate and the endless quest to get it back.
A lot of the proceedings seemed to be a poor man's Ren and Stimpy for the wee set which not a lot of stuff there for the adults, even when they do make it to the shore which I am sure the studio made the focus in the trailers in the hopes for the parents to feel it ok for them to take the plunge with them.
All I can say is a weird adventure zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
