Review of The Spirit of St. Louis (1957) by Guy L — 19 May 2011
James Stewart IS miscast, playing James Stewart instead of Charles Lindbergh, but the flying and engineering scenes are epic. Wish they'd remake this puppy showing the roughness of the Paris flight -- Lindbergh was so zonked at the end of it that he was hallcuinating -- and the interesting rumors about the favor reporters did him the night before his takeoff.
Still, Billy Wilder can do little wrong, and the film is brisk, entertaining, and stirring despite its homogenized hero.
